A cylinder or roller of a printing machine is provided with a surface layer applied by coating it with a powder of at least one of a metal, a metal oxide and a metal carbide in a substantially homogeneous thin layer with a layer thickness of less than 50 microns, while using powder grain sizes of less than 25 microns, for the purposes of corrosion protection and reduction of any tendency to the smearing-off of ink. When metal powder is used this may be chrome, nickel or cobalt. The powder coating may be in one or more layers and micropores may be closed by sealers. |
