A method of integrally forming plastics elements onto porous materials consists of forming, typically injection moulding, a non-polar, partially crystalline plastics material, such as polyolefin, in the thermoplastics state onto the porous material; the porous material itself constitutes one-half of the mould, while the other half of the mould is of smooth metal and follows the desired contour of the injection moulding. The injection moulding parameters are selected so that the molten material penetrates to a sufficient depth into the porous material structure. The method can be used for attaching handles, decorative components, strips and the like to porous articles of furniture etc. No separate prefabrication of the fittings is required.
