This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a fluorinated compound of the general formula RFC2H4OR comprising reacting an iodide of the general formula RFC2H4I with a percarboxylic acid of the general formula R1CO3H at a temperature and for a time sufficient to form said fluorinated compound; in said formulae RF is a straight or branched chain perfluorinated radical containing 1 to 20 C atoms, R is a hydrogen atom or -COR1, and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical.
