PURPOSE:To provide a carrier for a lithography plate, which is excellent in hydrophilic and water-retaining properties and having prolonged printing durability performance, by mechanically roughening the surface of an aluminum plate, chemically etching the surface and applying an alternating current to the plate in an acid aqueous solution to cause electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:After the surface of an aluminum plate is mechanically roughened, the surface is chemically etched within a range of 5-20g/m<2>. An alternating current, whose quantity of anode electricity is larger than that of cathode electricity, is applied to the etched aluminum plate in an acid aqueous solution at a current density of 20A/dm<2> or more and an electricity quantity of 200C/dm<2> or less to cause electrolysis. The aluminum plate is made of pure aluminum or aluminum alloy. Any wave form is acceptable for the alternating current if only the quantity of anode electricity is larger than that of cathode electricity. It is preferable that the anode voltage is higher than the cathode voltage.
