A mould closing plate 15 is connected by a tubular piston-rod 14 to a double-acting annular piston 12 slidable between concentric cylinders 11, 13 to define chambers 5, 7, the latter storing hydraulic fluid displaced by the piston during rightward mould opening movement, the stored fluid being used to supplement the supply of fluid to the other side 4 of the piston during a mould closing movement. An arrangement of electrically operated solenoid valves (S 1 -S 5 ), a non-return valve (R), a throttle (D), a contact pressure gauge (Ma) and a reservoir (R1), (Fig. 2, not shown), form part of a circuit for supplying fluid from a low pressure source (ND) to effect a mould closing movement. Actuation of a limit switch (E1) when the mould is closed, cancels the low pressure side of the circuit and connects a high pressure part (HD) to the side 4 of the piston, to effect a clamping action on the mould parts, the annular chambers 5, 7 being connected to the reservoir (R1), the valve (R) holding pressure on the side 4. To open the mould, the valve (R) is opened and the chamber 5 is connected to the source (ND), the piston moves rightwardly and oil passes from the side 4 to the chamber 7. |
