The compounds of formula <IMAGE> in which R represents a C1-C5 alkyl, are obtained by reaction of a thioamide RCSNH2 with an alpha -chloro- or alpha -bromo- gamma , gamma -dialkoxycarbonylbutyraldehyde, hydrolysis of the dialkyl [(2-alkyl-5-thiazolyl)methyl]propanedioate formed and decarboxylation, using a strong acid, of the corresponding dicarboxylic acid. These acids, as well as their salts with strong inorganic or organic acids, their alkali metal, alkaline-earth metal and aluminium salts and their C1-C5 alkyl esters, display an anti-fat-splitting action and lower the level of free fatty acids in the blood. They can thus be used in the treatment of hyperlipemia and of certain coronary or cardiac insufficiencies. |
