1276461 Modified polyamides CIBAGEIGY AG 1 Jan 1970 [13 Jan 1969 18 March 1969] 122/70 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] Wool is treated at 35-100‹ C., e.g. to render it non-felting, with an aqueous preparation containing a reaction product of (A) at least one basic polyamido obtained by condensation of a polymeric fatty acid with a polyalkylenepolyamine and (B) at least one polyfunctional compound containing as functional groups halogen, vinyl, acid, ester, acid anhydride or isocyanate groups or at most one epoxide group together with another said group, the amino equivalents in (A) to the functional groups in (B) being 1 : 1 to 10 : 1, the pH of the reaction mixture being adjusted to 2-8 before immersion of the wool therein, over which range the reaction product is soluble. By "amino equivalent" is meant the amount of polyamide, in grams, equivalent to 1 mole of monoamine. A monofunctional compound (C) containing one reactive group as for (B) may also be included in the reaction product. Treatment may be at pH 8-9 in the presence of a weakly alkaline compound, e.g. NH 4 OH, or Na phosphate or thiosulphate. In examples (A) is a condensation product of diethylenetriamine Œ triethylenetetramine with poly-linoleic or dioleic acids, and (B) is dimethyl phthalate Œ benzyl chloride (C), methyl chloroacetate, hexamethylene-1,6-diisocyanate Œ dodecane oxide (C), ethylene dibromide, epichlorhydrin Œ acrylonitrile (C), cyanuric acid, sebacic acid, phthalic anhydride, citric acid, naphthalene-1,2,3,4- tetracarboxylic acid, N,N<SP>1</SP>-methylene bis acrylamide, ethylene glycol diacrylate, divinyl benzene, dichloroethylether and 1,4-dichlorobut-2- ene. |
