The illumination may be purely decorative or provide assistance in location during the night etc. The arrangement of lighting source and vessel to be illiminted may vary but is based on the use of a small lamp (5) positioned within the vessel base (4) which may be removable or not. The stem etc. of the vessel is shaped to accommodate the lamp and may be keyed (2,3) into the base and may contain a pressure operated switch (7) such that illumination is dependant on the glass containing a liquid (8). The power source can be included in the base volume (6). Alternately a number of lamps may be programmed to illuminate etched figures in a silvered surface forming part of a vase holder.
