Metal work drill with bit-entry head-stock - uses flexible sheath between barrel plate and chuck with contracting output box for cuttings and oil

The drill for metal uses a motor spindle (3) to effect the rotation and axial advance of a long bit (2). The bit passes through a drilling barrel (5) before it enters the workpiece (4), and a plate (6) locates the barrel. A flexible sheath (12) extends between the plate and spindle (3) to define a volumetrically variable chamber through which cuttings and lubricating oil are evacuated. The sheath folds up in the axial as in an accordion as the bit penetrates the workpiece (4). Alternatively the sheath (12) may be telescopic and its interior is accessible. The barrel (5) may be demountable from the top face of the plate.
