1288229 Vinyl acetate VEBA-CHEMIE AG 12 Sept 1969 [18 Sept 1968] 45177/69 Heading C2C Vinyl acetate is prepared from ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid reacted in the presence of Group VIII noble metal on an inorganic support and a redox system, with the acetic acid in the liquid phase and with the further addition of oxygen to maintain its concentration at a substantially constant level throughout the reaction. The redox system, preferably a copper II- copper (I) system is restored to the higher valency state immediately after reduction. An acetate ion former, e.g. lithium, sodium, potassium and barium acetate may also be present and aluminium silicate, silica gel, asbestos, aluminium oxides, aluminium phosphate and active carbon may be the inorganic support. The reaction may be portionwise or continuous. |
