The cylinder (70) of the linear actuator is of cold drawn tube and one end (11) is fixed in place between a swage and a shoulder (10b) formed by bending over the tube end. The piston rod (13) is rivetted into the piston. A guide ring (12) is fixed in the cylinder and has a series of recesses on its internal face. A bearing (17) made of a synthetic material is seated in one of the recesses. The ring is retained between two shoulders (10c,10d) in the cylinder. The first of these is frusto-conical and the part of the ring abutting this is bevelled correspondingly.
