A parallel-axis fork latch has a housing-fixed bolt on the part protruding from the door, in a closing mechanism for a door folding about a horizontal axis, on a domestic aooliance, such as dish-washer or washing machine. The bolting device (35) has a loop piece (29) in the door (11), between latch (16) and door axis, embracing a stop luq (33). The loop's centre of gravity (40) is near a vertical plane accommodating the bearing axis, in the closed position. With the door ooened, the loop swings into a position where its centre of gravity is on the other side of this plane, and the lug engages the latch to prevent it from swinging into the closure position. This operates reliably, and cannot be interfered with from outside.
