The sliding grille gate is intended as a closure for a container. It comprises a number of cross-bars (3) whose ends are slidably held in guide channels (4). The cross-bars are interconnected by at least one longitudinal member (2) consisting of a resilient steel strip. The bars may be secured to the member(s) by resistance welding or riveting, or by inserting through looped portions formed by stamping in the members, and subsequently pressed together. The ends of the cross-bars may be plastics coated to facilitate sliding in the channels.
