Veterinary compositions comprise a 3, 5-dihalo-2, 6-di (lower alkyl)-4 pyridinol or a lower alkanoic acid ester, an alkali metal salt, ammonium salt, or a mineral acid salt thereof "Lower" signifies radicals or acids containing not in excess of 4 carbon atoms. The compounds can be used in admixture with grain rations or animal feeds to improve the growth of animals and to protect them from gastro-intestinal parasites and protozoan organisms, particularly coccidia. The compositions may be administered orally together with innocuous ingestible adjuvants or commercial animal feeds, concentrates or supplements. |
