Ethyl 3-(1-methyl- or H-5-nitro-2-imidazolyl)-2-acetyl-propenoate - antiprotozoal anti-mycotic and anti-bacterial agents

Cpds. of formula (I):- (where R = methyl or H) are antiprotozoal, antimycotic antibacterial agents effective against Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans (I) is rapidly absorbed and is mostly eliminated by the renal route and has good gastric tolerance and low renal toxicity. It is pref. administered locally or orally e.g. in doses of 250 mg 2-3 times daily for 3-5 days or longer in resistant cases.
