A box 1, for storing a roll 2 of household foil 3, comprises a working edge 13 presenting a series of linearly spaced protrusions 14, with a coating 16 of granular particles (such as corundum granules partially embedded in glue) covering at least part of a narrow end surface and an adjacent side surface of the working edge 13, thereby allowing even transparent plastics foil to be torn in a straight line, without injury to the user and without damaging the box.
