PURPOSE:To monitor a tool such as grinding wheel and cutting tool placed in an actual work for the purpose of knowing proper replacement time by applying a coherent light to cutting marks left on the surface of the work and analyzing the output signals from a photo-electric transducer which receives the reflected beams. CONSTITUTION:Laser 30 is applied to the work 12. No.1 photo-electric transducer 13A which is to sense the intensity of the produced diffraction pattern's 10 low frequency component, and No.2 phto-electric transducer 13B which is to sense the intensity of the high-frequency component, shall be arranged over the diffraction pattern 10. Electric signals obtained by this transducing for each frequency component are amplified by amplifiers 14, 15, and the intensity ratio of the low frequency component to high frequency component is calculated by a subtractor 16 to obtain an output 17. The timing of transition in the output 17 from the stabilized zone to the increasing zone sensed by a waveform shaper 18 will give a proper timing for replacement of the tool, when separation of grains etc. should have occurred. |
