A firearm using precompressed air comprises a frame 1, a barrel 2 mounted on said frame and having a breach closable against a stationary shoulder and a displaceable piston 8 for the intake of air into a cylindrical chamber 7 and compressing it in a compression chamber closable and openable by means of a mushroom-shaped valve 13. The compression chamber communicates with the bore of the barrel through a discharge bore in said stationary shoulder, the opening and closing of said valve being controlled by a spring and a release mechanism or assembly actuated by a trigger 17, said mechanism or assembly being activated by means of a mounting slide 38 connected to said barrel. The barrel is guided on the frame from a closing position against the stationary shoulder to an opening position and vice versa. The piston is connected to the barrel via a pin 22' and slot 24 mechanism so that the barrel is moved to the open position only during the final part of the forward air intake stroke of the piston and to the closed position against the shoulder only during the final part of the rearward compression stroke. <IMAGE>
