1345132 Seat belt with warning signal ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 13 Jan 1972 [15 Jan 1971] 1645/72 Heading A3V In a seat belt assembly a warning signal 10 is activated by a two position switch 16 operated by a locking member of a belt retractor reel through one of two alternative branches i.e. in a first position of the switch to which the latter is biassed and which it adopts on belt withdrawal a branch 13, 15 is selected and a timing switch in a timing module 18 is started, the circuit not being closed until a preset time interval has elapsed while on retraction of the belt the switch 16 is moved by the locking member to its second position in which a branch 11 is chosen and the warning signal 10 is actuated. A switch 12, which may be the ignition switch of a vehicle or operated by engaging the vehicle transmission into a moving gear, is provided to open the circuit and inactivate the signal 10 when the vehicle is switched off or not moving respectively. The signal is powered by a voltage source 14, conveniently a 12 volt DC battery. Pressure sensitive switches in the vehicle seats inactivate the signal unless there is an occupied seat with the corresponding belt retracted. The time delay provided by the module 18 is conveniently six hours and is intended to discourage the withdrawal of the belt without proper fastening of same e.g. by knotting the belt. |
