1283130 Surgical forceps PILLING CO 2 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 57360/70 Heading A5R Surgical clamping means comprise a pair of jaws 8 and 10 interconnected for movements toward and from each other, each of said jaws comprising at least one longitudinal rib having a row of teeth 38, 40, Fig. 3, and at least one longitudinal groove 18, 28, Fig. 4, to receive the teeth of the rib of the opposite jaw, the teeth of the ribs on the respective jaws being laterally disposed relatively to each other, the ribs on the respective jaws having longitudinally extending flanks 22, 34 which are closely adjacent to each other when the jaws are in clamping relationship and which are shaped to provide a longitudinally extending tissue-receiving pocket 36 having, in transverse cross-section, an enlarged central portion and relatively narrower end portions. The flanks of the ribs are preferably concave and the apices of the teeth preferably rounded. The jaws are also provided with engageable surfaces 16, 26 to prevent engagement of the teeth with the corresponding grooves. |
