PURPOSE:To enable the monitoring device to check lubricating oil of a transmission, etc., for degradation by measuring electrical resistance of an oil film applied to the machine, and monitoring the degradation of the lubricating oil comparing the measured values of the electrical resistance with a previously determined reference value. CONSTITUTION:A collector ring 3 is provided around the shaft end of a transmission, and brushes 4, 5 are brought into contact with the surface of the transmission. The first brush 4 is pressed against the collector ring 3 by a strong spring, and directly contacts the collector ring. But the force pressing the second brush 5 is weak, and thus an oil film 18 is formed between the brush 5 and the collector ring 3. Electrical resistance of the oil film 18 varies as a function of the thickness of the oil film 18, so that the thickness of the oil film 18 is evaluated by measuring the voltages between the brushes 4, 5. The signal for the thickness of the oil film is compared with a reference value previously given to a controller 9. |
