There are prepared novel benzanilide derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> in which A is a straight-chain or branched alkylene radical, R1 or R2 are identical or different and denote lower alkyl radicals or, with the N atom to which they are bonded, form a heterocyclic ring which additionally can contain further hetero atoms, and X and Y are identical or different and denote hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy. These compounds are obtained by reacting a compound of the formula <IMAGE> with a halide donating the radical -A-N(R1)R2. The novel compounds exhibit many different kinds of pharmacological activities, e.g. an ulcer-healing activity, and they have, inter alia, a peripheral vasodilatory and hypotensive action.
