PURPOSE:To obtain an antitumor substance having a powerful antitumor activity, by extracting a stroma or incubated mycelium of Isaria atypicola Yasuda with an aqueous slovent, and collecting an antitumor polysaccharide from the extract. CONSTITUTION:A stroma or incubated mycelium of a strain belonging to the genus Isaria, the family Stilbacea, the order Hyphomycetes, the class Deuteromycetes, the division Ascomycetes is extracted with an aqueous solvents, and an antitumor substance is collected from the aqueous solvent extract. Alternatively, the strain is incubated in a liquid, and the culture is filtered to collect the antitumor substance from the culture filtrate. As for the raw material, the stroma cannot be easily collected in a large quantity in the open air, and therefore the incubated mycelium is usually used. The mycelium can be obtained by the solid or liquid culture method; however, the liuid submerged culture method is advantageous from the viewpoint of handleability and productivity. The raw material may be used directly or pretreated, e.g. washed with water, air-dried, pulverized or extracted with a nonpolar solvent, and then extracted with an aqueous solvent. |
