PURPOSE:To prepare a long-chain dicarboxylic acid continuously, by incubating a specific microorganism in a culture medium of a straight chain hydrocarbon as a substrate in a tank, mixing the straight chain hydrocarbon with the fermentation broth, allowing the mixture to stand, and using the floating upper layer liquid as a culture in the next tank. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism, capable of producing a dicarboxylic acid, and belonging to the genus Candida is incubated in a fermentation tank containing a culture medium of a 10-18C straight chain hydrocarbon, e.g.n-tridecane, as a substrate with aeration. Said hydrocabon is then mixed with the fermentation broth thus obtained, and the mixture is allowed to stand to collect the floating upper liquid layer. The liquid layer is then incubated in the next fermentation tank containing a culture medium free from the straight chain hydrocarbon to produce a long-chain dicarboxylic acid and multiply the microbial cell.Most of the microbial cell separated in the floating upper layer liquid facilitates the separation and recovery of the dicarboxylic acid from the remaining fermentation broth, and the industrial and continuous production of the acid is possible. |
