<p>The engine has a toroidal cylinder (2) round a shaft (4). Two discs (5,5') loose on the shaft carry pistons (6,6') in the form of arcs in the cylinder. A gear train (18,17,15,14) with a reduction gearbox (16) from the shaft rotates a cam (13) at the end of the shaft. This moves a plunger (7) axially inside the shaft. The plunger has tapered recesses (9,9') which push pins (10) in and out of slots in the discs. This couples the discs to the shaft between ignition and the end of compression. Arms (19,19') from the shaft into slots in the discs prevent reverse rotation over the rest of the stroke.</p> |
