<p>The exhaust outlet (3) is particularly for a four-stroke Otto-cycle engine, and is situated in the cylinder wall. The inlet valve can also be mounted in the cylinder wall, and as an alternative the exhaust can be in the cylinder head and the inlet valve in the cylinder wall, where the engine is a diesel. The design allows more space for the valves, with better filling and scavenging. In a typical application, air or mixture passes through the inlet valve (1) which overlaps a depression in the centre of the piston.</p> |
