PURPOSE:To reduce the temperature incline generated by the heating of the cell reaction or the feeding of a process gas, and to reduce the thermal stress by sealing a fused metal operation medium in a hollow space of a bipolar plate beforehand. CONSTITUTION:A unit cell consists of an anode 1, a cathode 2, and an electrolyte plate 3 between the both electrodes, and unit cells are laminated each other through a bipolar plate 4 to compose a cell stack. The plate 4 is formed as a hollow shape by a separator 5 and a spacer 6, and in the space of the hollow, an operation medium 7 is sealed in a decompressed condition. When a temperature incline is generated in the cell by the heating of the cell reaction or by feeding the anode gas or the cathode gas, the vapor pressure is increased or decreased in the medium 7, and the heat is transmitted from the high temperature side to the low temperature side to keep a balance of gas and liquid, and the medium 7 demonstrates an excellent heat regulation as if it is a heat pipe. As a result, the temperature incline in the cell is reduced, and the thermal stress to the cell components is decreased. |
