In one form (Fig. 1) the locking means comprises a split ring 34 accommodated in a groove 30 of the chuck body 10. Projections 36, 38 respectively engage a notch 32 in body 10 and any one of a series of notches 28 in cap 24. In another form (Fig. 6) the locking means comprises a spring wire 52 riveted to the body 10 and engaging through a notch 50 of the body. In a further form (Fig. 12) the locking means comprises a resilient ring 60 having a radial detent 62 which engages one side wall of a slot 14 accommodating a spring 16, and an axial detent 64 engaging in a notch of the cap 24. The chuck can be affixed to the rotary spindle of an automatic screw machine or lathe. |
