A pigmentary, bright primrose yellow monoclinic bismuth vanadate and processes for the preparation thereof by reacting bismuth nitrate with and alkali vanadate under controlled conditions to obtain a bismuth vanadate gel followed by aqueous digestion or calcination to produce pigmentary, bright primrose yellow monoclinic bismuth vanadate.
