PURPOSE:To obtain phenols in high yield, inhibiting the formation of by-products, by the gas-phase oxidation of aromatic carboxylic acids with molecular oxygen in the presence of a highlt active, long-life catalyst containing, Cu, Cr, Ba, Te and oxygen atom. CONSTITUTION:A phenol is obtained by the gas-phase oxidation of an aromatic carboxylic acid (e.g. benzoic acid, methyl benzoic acid, etc.) with molecular oxygen, using a catalyst containing Cu, Cr, Ba, Te and oxygen atom as essential components. The atomic ratio of Cu, Cr, Ba and Te and Te in the catalyst is 1: (5-0.5):(2-0.1):(1-0.01), and these components should be homogeneously mixed and integrated. The activity of the catalyst can be increased by calcination with O2-containing gas at 400-600 deg.C for 1-24hr after the preparation. EFFECT:The above catalyst has an excellent heat-resistance and reduction-resistance and gives only a small amount of carbon deposition. |
