PURPOSE:To measure the profile of a rod and check the cross-sectional size by a method wherein a thickness meter rotating continuously around the rod is utilized for continuous measurement of the diameter of the rod, and the maximum and the minimum values for each half turn of the thickness meter are determined by an arithmetic operating circuit. CONSTITUTION:A light source 2, lenses 3, 4, a photoelectric conversion array elements, a slip ring 8, a signaling means and a counter are integrally fitted on a rotary member 12, and the assembly is continuously rotated in a fixed direction around a fixed shaft 11 as a retation center by a motor 10. The supply of power for the rotary member and the transfer of signals are effected through a slip ring on the side of the rotary member and a brush. An operational processor 9 compares the read-in diameter value D1 with the maximum value Dmax and the minimum value Dmin obtained previously, and renews the maximum or the minimum value when it is surpassed by the already read-in diameter value, obtained by that time. After completion of a half turn, the maximum and the minimum values Dmax and Dmin are compared with the allowable limits Demax and Domin, respectively, which are preliminarily fed from the exterior, and an alarm is generated when the maximum or the minimum value is out of the limits. |
