NEW MATERIAL:Optically active or racemic 2,6-dimethyl-6-heptene-1,2-diol. USE:An intermediate of frontalin i.e. 1,5-dimethyl-6,8-dioxabicyclo-[3,2,1]octane, which is an aggregation pheromone effective to several kinds of insects belonging to Dendroctonus genus. PROCESS:An optically active or racemic 2,6-dimethyl-6-heptene-1,2-diol is prepared by reducing the optically active or racemic 2-hydroxy-2,6-dimethyl-6-heptenal. |
