NEW MATERIAL:A bicyclooctane derivative shown by the formula I(R is lower alkyl, lower aralkyl, or aryl; R1 is H or lower alkyl; X is vinylene or ethylene; Z is lower alkylene.). EXAMPLE:2beta-( 4'-Amyloxy-3'-hydroxy-trans-1'-butenyl )-3alpha-hydroxy-7-( 4'carboxybutylidene)bicyclo[3,3,0]octane. USE:Having strong inhibiting action on platelet aggregation. A drug useful for diseases, e.g., cerebral thrombosis, cerebral apoplexy, etc. PRECESS:1mol of a compound shown by the formula II (Y is H or hydroxy-protecting group) is reacted with 1-10mol of a Wittig reagent shown by the formula III (M is H or alkali metal; R' is aryl) in the presence of a solvent, e.g., diethyl ether, preferably at room temperature, the protecting group is removed when hydroxyl group is protected, and the resulting compound is esterified, if necessary, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
