PURPOSE: To measure each constituent concentration of a flammable gas in a gas stream by converting the measured total pressure of a gas to the measurement value of current flowing through an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: A process side 7 of an electrochemical cell 1 is in fluid connection relationship with one portion of a gas stream that flows into a cavity part 3 via a diffusion limitation port 5 and a reference side 9 of the cell is in fluid connection relationship with a reference gas. The process side 7 and the reference side 9 are separated by an electrolyte 11. The difference of potential applied to the cell l passes through the electrolyte from the reference side 9 and the flow of oxygen ion flowing to the process side 7 generates a steady current flow that is equivalent to the required flow for consuming the flow of flammable gas that flows into the cavity part 3 through the port 5 from the gas stream. Then, the value of steady current flowing through the electrolyte is measured, the current is recovered after shutting off for time t, and the surge of current that appears exceeding the steady current is measured until the steady value is reached. Then, the total pressure of the gas in the gas stream is measured and the total pressure and the current measurement value are converted, thus obtaining the indication of the concentration of each constituent of the flammable gas in the gas stream. |
