<p>Gas is added to liq. in makign aerated waters and in various stages of brewing, by supplying it to one side of a semi-permeable membrane with the liq. flowing past on the other side. Membrane of micro-porous tetrafluoroethylene is used. This is already in use as a filtering agent, and will hold back microscopic particles of impurity while letting the gas itself pass through into the liq.; being hydrophobic, the material will also be impermeable to the liq. The sterilisation problem becomes simpler. As the impurities are held within the membrane which the liq. is in immediate contact with, there is no zone of doubtful status between them, and merely setting the serialising fluid to flow through in place of the usual liq. is all that is needed to effect the required sterilisation.</p> |
