are prepared by reacting a tertiary allyl alcohol of the formula

with an acetal or ketal of the formula

in a strong acid. 3-100 mol of ketal or acetal are employed per mole of tertiary allyl alcohol.
<??>R<1> represents organic radicals as defined in detail in the description. R<2> represents a lower aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R<3>, R<4> and R<5> represent hydrogen or a lower aliphatic hydrocarbon radical. R<1> can also be cyclised with R<2>, and R<4> can be cyclised with R<5>, to give a carbocyclic ring. R<6> represents alkyl.
<??> gamma , delta -Unsaturated carbonyl compounds of the formula I can be used as odoriferous substances for perfuming purposes. They can furthermore be used as intermediates for the preparation of other chemical compounds, such as, for example, substituted ionones, the vitamins A, E and K1, or carotenoids.
