<p>The formulation, having a positive isotropy, contains (a) 17-39.9% of the p-cyanophenyl ester of p-(n-butyl)-benzoic acid (b) 13.4-65.5% of the p-cyanophenyl ester of p-(n-hexyl)- and/or p-(n-heptyl)benzoic acid and (c) 17.2-39% of the p-cyanophenyl ester of p-(n-heptyl)cinnamic acid. The formulations are used to represent information in electro- optical and opto-electronic instruments. The incorporation of the third ingredient enables a strong dielectric anisotropy (delta epsilon 19-20%) and a wide temperature existence interval of the meso nematic phase (T C-N is less than 0 deg.C and TN-I is greater than 60 deg.C.</p> |
