The grinder has a base (10) which supports a travelling table (12), which in turn supports the part to be ground (19). A stationary cross member (21) supports a plurality of operative units which are mobile forwards and rearwards independently of one another, each of which comprises a tool-holder head (32), which is forced towards a respective cam of the part to be ground, by a sensor means (42) which is maintained engaged with a corresponding cam of a sample part (18). A motor and joints (or couplings) make the part to be ground (19) and the sample part (18) rotate perfectly in phase. It is thus possible to grind simultaneously all the cams of a distribution shaft for engines. <IMAGE>
