A composite catalyst, esp. for hydrocarbon conversion, contg. at Pt-group constit. and a Ge constit. uniformly dispersed in a support, is produced by (a) dissolving GeCl4 in an anhydrous alcohol, pref. EtOH or iProH; (b) treating the soln. to establish an equilibrium state, pref. by ageing for 1-4 days at ambient temp. or for 1-5 hrs. at 70 degrees C; (c) mixing the soln. with an aq. soln. of a decomposable, water soluble Pt-group metal cpd., pref H2PtCl6 in aqs. HCl, to form a soln. free from ppte; (d) impregnating a porous support material with a high specific surface, pref Al2O3, with soln.; and (e) drying and calcining; and opt. (f) reducing with dry H2 at 427-593 degrees C and sulphurising to introduce 0.05-0.5 wt.%S. The catalyst pref. contains 0.01-5 wt.% Ge 0.01-2 wt.% Pt and 0.5 - 4% Cl. The ageing treatment avoids the pptn. GeO2.
|
