1301884 Treating plants INTERNATIONAL MINERALS & CHEMICAL CORP 21 April 1970 [30 April 1969] 19122/70 Heading A1E [Also in Division Cl] A method of treating plants to increase the crop yield therefrom comprises introducing an effective amount of an unsaturated hydrocarbon gas into the soil substantially below the surface of the soil and sufficiently near the roots of the plants that the gas diffuses in the soil to the plants. The gas is suitably ethylene and may be introduced into the soil in the form of, e.g. a gas, an aqueous solution or a compound which yields the gas through contact with the ground. The gas may also be used in conjunction with ammonia.
