Motor unit for stirred pressure vessel agitators - having split-tube motor operating under pressure to ensure minimum pressure difference on shaft seal

Motor unit for agitator consists of a high pressure split tube motor which is maintained at a pressure close to that of the vessel being agitated. The motor shaft and the agitator shaft are co-axial although an orbital reducing gear unit can be used between them, giving a speed reduction of 10, 14 or 30. The motor is filled with oil which is recirculated through an external cooler and maintained at the vessel pressure. The agitator shaft has a mechanical ring seal but the pressure difference across it is low. The unit is for use on stirred pressure vessels such as high autoclaves operating up to 500 deg.C. The system gives leak free operation at high temp. and pressure and is therefore esp. useful on toxic gases and vapours and other environmentally damaging materials.
