Purifying exhaust gas contaminated with mercury - by passing through filter unit which comprises a set of cylindrical elements coated with powder

Hg comtamination in an exhaust gas stream is removed by passing the gas through a filter unit. The unit has a set of cylindrical elements on the surface of which is a lyer of dust which is injected into the gas stream before it enters the filter. The dust is finely ground lime containing material to which is added finely ground pure Sn or a Cl containing cpd. The filter elements are not cleaned in groups but as individual elements. In a large installation no more than 2% of the available area is cleaned at any time.
