<p>A mixt. of powders and air is blown into a reactor and heated, so that redn. occurs in a continuous process which also generates the heat required for the redn. Other sources of heat are pref. used to start the process, e.g. an electric arc, and electric heaters melting the slag obtd. in the redn. process. The reactor is pref. located in a pressure vessel fed with water to produce steam, or with a coolant for temp. control. The reactor may also be surrounded by superheater tubes to create steam used in a turbine to generate electricity.</p> |
