Two=part optical conductor clamp for forming spliced junction - in which each part has clamping element pivoted through right angle into joining position

The clamp has a guide groove (8,8') in each part receiving an optical conductor end, with the clamping element (2,2') rotated about an axis lying along the line joining the two guide grooves (8,8') from a position in which the optical conductor is split into the joining position. Each clamping element (2,2') is in two parts (3,4;3',4') separated by a transverse slot (10.10') one part (3,3') gripping the outer sheath of the optical conductor and the other part (4,4') the stripped optical fibre (6,6'). Each part of the clamp is mounted on a separate carrier plate (1,1') one of which is axially adjustable.
