Automated sealing of battery plate borders with extruded foam - opt. using expanded polyethylene shaped by external profile wheels

The borders of sandwich structure battery plates are sealed by passing a series of plates automatically past equipment which extrudes and shapes a foamed plastic material to enclose the borders of the sides and, if necessary, the base of the plates. Process is more efficient than conventional manual manipulation of plates to fit prefabricated seal profiles. It is applicable to plates with covers of e.g. polyester materials which cannot receive profiles which require ultrasonic welding.
