A part 11, Fig. 1 is secured on a shaft 5 between a shoulder and a locking wedge 1, Fig. 2. The locking wedge may be U-shaped so as to embrace the shaft which is provided with an inlined abutment surface 7 axially-facing the part 11. The locking wedge is radially movable on the shaft towards its narrower end so as to provide an axial force against the part 11. Two locking wedges 1, Fig. 5 may be employed with an abutment surface formed by a circlip 12 to preload a conveyor roller bearing. The arms of the U-shaped locking wedge may be bent over after wedging. The locking wedge may be made of metal or plastics and have a toothed surface to aid grip. Alternatively, the locking wedge may be apertured so that it can be pushed axially along the shaft to its place of use.
