PURPOSE:To make the breadth of the slab after the roughing pass uniform, and to prevent the decline of the product yield, by giving the slab end before being fed to the broadside rolling pass the specified curvature in order to make the slab breadth narrow. CONSTITUTION:By previously giving the end part 1 the curvature as shown in the figure A, the breadth of slab B is narrowed to the specified breadth; this slab S is fitted into the edger roll (e) as shown in the figure B. At this point of time, the correction of breadth of the end part 1 is not performed. Next, the broadside rolling work is applied over the taper part 3 to the middle part 2 successively; with the progress of this rolling pass, the excess metal caused by the broadside rolling work is formed into the dog bone 4 along the side edge. Accordingly, the broadside rolled slab possesses the curved part at the end part 1 and the dog 4 at the middle part 3 (as shown in figure C). As a result, at the flat rolling pass shown in figure D, the slab is rolled into uniform breadth possessing no thickness deviation over whole length, so that the trimming of the end part of the product becomes unnecessary as shown in figure E. |
