PURPOSE:The titled gel, readily usable for a fomentation etc., having improved spreadability while retaining the advantage of a highly hydrous gel, and prepared by enclosing a water-permeable sheet material into a highly hydrous gel consisting of a methoxymethylene-maleic anhydride copolymer and an Al compound mainly. CONSTITUTION:A water-permeable sheet material, preferably a sheet mesh material, e.g. a gauze, lawn or nylon net, is enclosed in a highly hydrous sheet gel layer consisting of a methoxymethylene-maleic anhydride copolymer or its salt and an Al compound to give a sheet hydrous gel. For example, a composition which does not gel is made to flow over a container 1 to form a layer, which is covered with a sheet material 2 and gelatinized preferably when the material 2 sinks by its own weight half the depth of the layer. The gelation speed is controlled by adjusting the pH. The gel is usable for a medicine, medical appliance or cosmetic due to the corrected disadvantage of low resistance to tension and no spreadability. |
