Ships loading derrick with integral winch - has rope winch axes parallel to mast, and hollow hub forming rope guide

The loading derrick has winches mounted in or near the mast supporting the boom. The axes of rotation of the winches (14,1) are parallel to that (15) of the mast. The rope (11) can be reeved round a spooling mechanism parallel to the drum axis (14), the mechanism comprising a slide moving to and fro in guides under the action of a reversing spindle or chain drive, and having a rope pulley and a hollow hub forming a rope guide eye. The design allows the winches to be mounted inside the mast, with consequent economy of space on board ship.
