<p>1431836 Spot-type disc brakes PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 26 June 1973 [7 July 1972] 30348/73 Addition to 1318914 Heading F2E In a spot-type disc brake having a disc 1, Fig. 2, and comprising at least one support means 19, Fig. 1, secured to a support 30 and having a support surface slightly inclined relative to the adjacent disc surface and at least one wedge-shaped brake pad 5, 6, provided with a plane friction surface 5a parallel to the disc surface and an inclined surface 5b parallel to and co-operating with the inclined support surface of support means 19, the pad 5, 6 being actuated for braking in a direction slightly inclined relative to the disc surface and generally opposed to the normal direction of movement f of the disc, the support 30 is a floating caliper or like component, movable perpendicularly to the disc and carrying, at one side of the disc, the support means 19, the pad 5, 6, and actuating means 9 to 13, and at the other side of the disc, a pad 32 whose friction surface is parallel to the disc. As shown the caliper 30 has ears 29, Fig. 2, slidable on pins 28 carried by a bracket-plate 3 secured to a vehicle chassis (not shown). Also a wear-compensating device 15, 26, 27, preferably as in the main Specification and including a screw-and-nut assembly inside a support block 15, Fig. 1, and operated by a pawl- and-ratchet mechanism 27, 26, may be provided. As shown the axis X-X of block 15 and the axis Z-Z of the reaction block 33 carrying pad 32 meet in the median plane P-P of disc 1. To apply the brake, cylinder 13 is pressurized, whereupon lever 9 is pivoted clockwise about pivot 10. On discharging cylinder 13, the spring therein restores pad 5, 6, while the caliper is elastically restored by means not shown.</p> |
